Yes, this post is definitely way overdue, but I’m going to post it anyway. I was lucky enough to be key stylist on both the Calzedonia 2020 and 2021 swimwear campaigns. Although South Africa sadly doesn’t have access to the amazing brand unless we go online shopping, the Verona based company still adores our beautiful , world-class dunes and beaches. Each day on set included shooting from sunrise to sunset, in order to capture all the beautiful stages of light throughout the day.

The campaigns cast both local and international models and the locations ranged from luxury Camps Bay villas to Clifton and Llandudno beach, to the sensational Atlantis dunes. Although things look fun and effortless, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. The majority of the days were pumping with wind, so while the crew was able to bundle up in scarves, long pants and bomber jackets, our dedicated models had to splash in the freezing Atlantic Ocean and get stung by copious amounts of sand, followed by running to be bundled up in towels ands robes between shots.

In addition, every single fun-filled, effortless run and jump down the dunes, included having to hike right back up to the top. Trust me, having to do that 10 times over and still look like you’re having fun isn’t easy. The walks back up were strenuous and therefore hair and makeup touchups were required before each and every shot. Nonetheless, we still had a lot of laughs and the outcome was exactly what the Calzedonia team was looking for and it was all well worth it.
