Why The 2024 Oscars Were Just Wow

The Oscars 2024 had some absolutely phenomenal moments that have splashed across news headlines within the last 24 hours. So before getting into the best of the red carpet fashion, let’s talk about those moments.

My personal favourite was most definitely Ryan Gosling’s passionate and flawlessly choreographed rendition of the Barbie Movie’s hit ‘I’m Just Ken.’ Gosling was covered head-to-toe in that barbie doll pink we all know and love and was spectacularly bedazzled in fuchsia rhinestones. He dipped into the audience and encouraged his close friends and cast to sing along with him and include them in the performance.

Up next, we have to talk about John Cena gracing the stage in… well, nothing. The wrestler turned actor, presented ‘The Award For Best Costume Design,’ with nothing but a pair of slides and an envelope to cover up the mere necessities.

The most adorable and wholesome event to take place was the ‘Award For Best Supporting Dog.’ Black and white border collie, Messi, who played Snoop in the French courtroom drama got some decent screen time as the evening progressed. He donned a gorgeous black bow whilst sitting on his red velvet seat. Messi also confidently applauded along with the crowd when Downey Jr received his win by raising up his paws.

With all the devastating tragedy that is currently happening in the world, I would be remiss not to mention the fact that the event as a whole was delayed due to protestors blocking the streets as they chanted “Ceasefire Now” in support of those currently trapped in a living nightmare in Palestine. Their message was clear and has been heard by millions across the globe. I do applaud them for the level of attention they managed to capture with this protest.

However for some lightheartedness, I am redirecting my post back to one of the best parts about the Oscars – the red carpet. Instead of naming simply those I thought were “the best” looks, I am just going to list those that I thought stood out the most. Whether they are good or bad, is entirely up to you.

1. Carey Mulligan wore an elegant mermaid dress.

2. Emily Blunt, who went matching with her husband John Krasinski, wore a standout cream Schiaparelli creation.

3. Billie Eilish donned Chanel tweed coupled with a pair of Mary Janes. The singer won Best Song for ‘What Was I Made For?’ in the hit Movie, Barbie.

4. Anya Taylor Joy wore a strapless, silver petalled gown by Dior Haute Couture.

5. Ariana Grande is back in the public eye after being MIA for quite some time due to filming Wicked and her alleged cheating scandal.  She seemed to channel her character, Glinda The Good Witch, in this Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown.

6. Jennifer Lawrence once again made a statement in one of her favourite designers: Dior.

7. Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who won The Award For Best Supporting Actress, stood out in this lavish blue outfit.

8. Zendaya, Zendaya, Zendaya. The actress once again makes headlines in this Metallic Armani Privé dress.

9. Did someone say candy floss? Leah Lewis looks like she’s floating in this pink gown.

10. Emma Stone kept it simple with delicate details in a peplum, floor length gown.

11. Laura Karpman makes quite the statement in this glittering ensemble.

12. Another gorgeous actress that opted for silver this year. Gabrielle Union’s structured gown appears to fit like a glove.
