This may be news to some of you but the die-hard fans will know that Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts. She was named after Ruth Handler’s daughter, Barbara, who inspired the creation of the doll. Her original career was a teenage fashion model and over the years, she has had over 200 careers, including astronaut, doctor, veterinarian, firefighter, and even President of the United States. That’s one truly glam powerhouse!
Barbie’s boyfriend, Ken, debuted in 1961. He was named after Ruth’s son, Kenneth. Barbie and Ken have been an iconic couple ever since… yeah it’s kind of weird, but imagine no Ken to your Barbie? I mean… there would be no Ryan Gosling in the upcoming Barbie movie to serve some serious Ken-ergy.
Now step into Barbie’s world, and you’ll be greeted by a vibrant explosion of colours. From soft pastels to bold neon’s, Barbie’s fashion palette is a rainbow of delight. Whether she’s rocking a sunny yellow sundress or a fierce hot pink power suit, Barbie never shies away from expressing her personality through the hues she wears, and of course, no Barbie fashion extravaganza is complete without a dazzling array of accessories. From oversized sunglasses and statement handbags to sparkling jewellery and cute hats, Barbie knows how to elevate her outfits with the perfect finishing touches. These accessories add that extra touch of glamour and whimsy that Barbie is known for.
And let’s not forget about Barbie’s misadventures with her endless shoes – where do i even begin? It seems like she has an inexhaustible collection of footwear, and sometimes they seem to have a mind of their own. One moment Barbie is stepping into her favourite high heels, and the next, she’s chasing runaway shoes that seem to have developed a life of their own. Barbie struggles with shoe organization and the occasional “lost shoe” debacle is something that I think many of us can relate to.
Okay, enough Barbie trivia! Let’s move on to some iconic Barbie inspired looks from the runway to street-style. If you need some inspiration for the Barbie movie premiering on July 21, you’ve come to the right place. Come on Barbie, Let’s go
