Many trends were created and kickstarted again for the Spring/Summer 2022 collections. Halter-neck tops are back, as well as crotchet pieces and bralettes.
While many of the collections kept quite a subtle or neutral palette, there were a few designers – one of them being Versace – that opted for bold neons and bursts of colour which I love!
It was also phenomenal to see some South African designers show their collections in Milan. Rich Mnisi ventured into edgy silhouettes and daring cutouts, while Sindiso Khumalo stayed true to her style of high-neck, ruffled, collared dresses. Both labels were vibrant as the designers played with with bold, block colours.
One of the biggest moments in fashion history also took place: The collaboration of Fendi and Versace to create what is being called ‘Fendance.’ Donatella Versace and Silvia Venturini Fendi made the decision to switch roles in order to create the iconic partnership between the two major fashion labels during the SS22 Milan Fashion Week which took place this past week.
Donatella describes the partnership as “true creative dialogue that stems from respect and friendship,” and that both her and Silvia drew inspiration from each other’s vision. Kim Jones, the creative director for Dior homme, also joined the collaboration and assisted Silvia Venturini Fendi in the creation of the Versace collection.
Below are a few of my favourite pieces from some of my favourite labels.
Versace
A star-studded show that Dua Lipa both opened and closed. True to Versace, there were bandanas and iconic prints as well as bright and show-stopping colours.
Fendi
The label played with subtle tones with the occasional pop of bright colour and opulent texture.

Moncler 8 Palm Angels
Moncler is known for their amazing puffer jackets and ski-wear. Here the brand has translated that into a more summery feel with their print and colour choice and has made it extra cute by also including pet-wear.
Moncler 6 1017 Alyx 9SM
Black, white and beige. The label has created another collection that has a timeless palette with an edgy flare that stays true to the Moncler brand.
Prada
The show took place in both Milan and Shanghai and debuted a collection that is simple and chic.
Dolce & Gabbana
Sheer fabrics, silks and lace are what pull this collection together and resulted in creating something spectacular! This is hands-down one of my favourite shows to have taken place during Milan Fashion Week.

Missoni
Missoni is known for beautiful crotchets and here they have done it yet again. Their pieces give a strong sense of summer with halter-neck tops, fun colours and a lot of skin.
Etro
This collection combines every trend that this season has to offer. Etro has incorporated halter-neck tops, crotchets, floral prints and bright colours.
MM6 Margiela
MM6 Margiela seems to have done something very different from the rest and has created a collection that gives off a very strong Alice in Wonderland / jester feel.
