The Fire That Was Brought to Sun Met 2020

Fashion News

The beginning of February brought the Sun Met with it! And of course, all of our local obsessions from Bonang Matheba and Miss SA Sasha-Lee Olivier to Kefilwe Mabote and Sarah Langa were there and the fashion was as exquisite as the women who wore it.

Designers by the likes of House of BNG and Gert-Johan Coetzee have taken Instagram by storm and it would be highly unlikely that any SA fashion lover hasn’t gasped in awe over their feed at least once over the past 24 hours.

To make this post a little more special, I thought I’d go ahead and highlight five sensational looks worn by some of the strong women, makeup artists, and designers that I have had the privilege working with over the past year. They looked utterly flawless and have played a huge role in helping me create amazing content for Style Authority.

1. Nadia Jaftha

Nadia looked breathtakingly elegant in a body hugging gown with dramatic train. This beautiful dress is from Cape Town Dress Hire – A sensational business that allows you to dress like a princess for the night with out any breaking-the-bank guilt. Nadia perfected this look to a T with sleek, gelled baby hairs, immaculate glam and striking silver earrings.

2. Lindy Lin

Lindy wore a silver feathered dress with a matching clutch by Phenomena at YDE. She looked absolutely angelic in the metallic shade and of course, as one of the most sought after makeup artists in Cape Town, her glam was utter perfection.

And just before we continue to number 3 on my list, can we just take a moment to appreciate the BFF Instagram picture commitment we have from Nadia for Lindy? We all need friends like this.

3. Retha Lethoko

Retha donned an emerald dress and turban with effortless silver accessories. The top South African model opted for a design by Imprint ZA. The local label is known for creating afro futuristic luxury fashion. And Retha’s caption couldn’t be more accurate – ladies, you don’t need to bare all in order to look and feel beautiful.

4. Gert-Johan Coetzee

Gert is one of Style Authority’s all time favourite designers and looked unique and bold in one of his own breathtaking creations at the Sun Met 2020. He also dressed SA’s very own Queen B in one of his custom-made couture gowns.

5. Candice Manuel

And last – but most certainly not least! – we have the gorgeous ‘Candashian.’ The founder of Embrace Your Curves looked like a duchess in sparkles and florals. I am completely obsessed with the fact that she opted for sneakers!
